Bolivians are upset about being charged to transit gas through territory in northern Chile that was seized during the guano wars several decades ago.

Argentina still harbors ill feelings about Chile supporting the UK during the Falklands war. Carlos Menem married a former Miss Chile and spent time in the country after doing what is perceived by the average Argentinian as driving Argentina's economy into the ground. Even though Argentina sells gas to Chile, the political situation is delicate.

Peru is not terribly fond of Chile either for reasons I forget, but which are absolutely important to Peruvians.

In any case, energy independence is a big issue for Chile considering its uncertain status with its neighbors and nuclear power might offer a good solution.

I am mostly a lurker, but I have noticed that you seem to follow Chile. Any particular reason?
