| What is going on is a racial revolution. The light-skinned, most of European ancestry, minority has held power forever, and, of course, all of the economic benefits went to them. Chavez represents the dark skinned, Indian majority, who now want a piece of the pie. The problem is, there is only so much pie, and for one person to get more, somebody else has to give up some. Those getting more think it is equitable. Those giving up some think it's a ripoff. Bush is, of course, on the side of the white guys, which makes me root for Chavez. But I have friends in the other camp and I can certainly see where they're coming from. |
