Oh and for those who think outside the $20 bun, Last Sunday was served 1996 Dom Perignon, 1970 Latour (from a magnum) and a 1962 d'Yquem.
That's not thinking outside the $20 bun, that's a dream come true.
Absolutely incredible.
Tonight, simplicity will be the theme, as it always is. A prime tenderloin roast, with a crust of coarse ground black pepper. A simple salad made up of a lot of different greens, some very ripe tomatoes, bits of Louisiana satsumas from my uncle's farm, perhaps a bit of feta, and some walnuts. Vinaigrette dressing, probably. Fresh asparagus grilled to perfection in olive oil and pepper. A crusty, airy ciabatta from a terrific local baker will be the bread. Dessert: Again, pure simplicity. A very simple fruit tart as well as enormous, nearly rotten, i.e., perfectly ripened, persimmons images.google.com from my uncle's farm topped with vanilla ice cream.
Wines: Don't know yet, a St. Emilion which I think needs to go soon, for sure. Some new Malbecs I haven't tried yet, perhaps. Unfortunately, the best Malbecs seem to stay in Argentina, but I am starting to see an influx of the better stuff, some Susana Balbos are becoming more widely avaialable. |
