Got a little story for your holiday amusement:
Down in New Orleans there is this black preacher who stands on Canal Street haranging those among the passersby who haven't yet heard "The Word". He carries a Bible. He has been there as many years as I can remember. I have seen him as recently as 2 months ago. Sometimes he has a megaphone. Recently he has been sporting a hat with an umbrella sticking out of the top of it. Not sure if he lives in a box, or what the umbrella is for. I'm reasonably sure he's way whacked out, but then who am I to judge.
Also in New Orleans we have a type of house, usually a duplex, called a "shotgun house".
A friend of mine, who no longer lives in New Orleans, used to play guitar in several Neville conglomerations, mostly Cyrille Neville's Uptown Allstars. So he got to meet a lot of Famous Rockandrollers, including David Byrne, who told him this:
Once, while visiting New Orleans for the first time, Mr. Byrne was walking on Canal Street, when he noticed this preacher. As he stopped to listen, he heard the preacher intone into the microphone:
"You may find yourself in a big fine house...
Or you may find yourself in a shotgun shack..."
You know the rest.
