Siliconware Precision Industries Limited (SPIL) will start construction on a high-end testing and packaging plant in Changhua, Taiwan on December 27, with the plant to start operations by year-end of 2007, according to the company.

SPIL bought the 13,000-ping (4.3 hectares) Changhua site for NT$804 million (US$24.6 million) in August 2006 as part of the company's high-end testing and packaging deployment over the next two years.

In light of the warming up demand prior to the 2008 Olympic Games, SPIL is aggressively expanding to meet the substantial demand, according to a Chinese-language Apple Daily report. The postponed approval by Taiwan's government of SPIL's investment in China has motivated the company to speed up the construction at the Changhua site, the paper report.

In addition to the new Changhua plant, SPIL currently has production facilities in Taichung in central Taiwan.
