I think that was the reason the UN was originally created. To get past local politics and have the power (if only of the "bully pulpit") to make real, simpler change. Hasn't usually worked, but we can all hope.

For example, the SIMPLEST solution to the Israel/Palestine problem would be for the UN, US or EU to buy/lease 100 square miles of desert in one of the neighboring countries (Jordan, Syria, the Kingdom) and turn it into a showcase country for the Palestinians. If there any current residents on the plot of New Palestine, they get their own piece of valuable, irrigated land too. Start from scratch with irrigation (Israeli built?), solar ,wind, energy, etc. In other words a real model.

Separate it from Israel by a 30 mile strip and have one super highway and one high speed rail back and forth with a no-man's land in-between. Perhaps an international airport there. That would allow for almost absolute control of entry/exit of each country and easy access should the two sides decide to work TOGETHER.

Really invest in making New Palestine work - it would be a whole lot cheaper for the world than the current alternatives.

Jerusalem could be a city/state run by the three major religions.

There are certainly problems with this idea, but imho, they beat all the current attempts to get the two peoples to live in the same small area. When two kids are constantly fighting, you need to separate them.

Oh well . . .
