InnovaCom to Provide Hewlett Packard, Digital Equipment, Compaq Computer, and Sun Microsystems with MPEG-2 Video Encoding at Interop
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1997--InnovaCom Inc. will supply MPEG-2 video encoding over Gigabit Ethernet networks to Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment, Compaq Computer and Extreme Networks at the Networld+Interop Convention in Atlanta, Oct. 8-10, 1997.
``Selection of InnovaCom to supply video to Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment, Compaq and Extreme Networks reinforces InnovaCom's growing position as the MPEG-2 technology of choice in the development of high quality video networks using local area network and wide area network infrastructures,'' said Mark C. Koz, InnovaCom president and chairman.
``We expect to utilize the bandwidth provided by Gigabit Ethernet to move high quality video to the desktop workstation from these companies utilizing our DV2100 MPEG-2 encoder,'' Koz said. ``We will be supplying program content as well from our Sierra Vista Entertainment Division.''
Last week Extreme Networks announced that it, 3Com Corp., Compaq Computers and Netcom Systems will be providing the first multi-vendor Gigabit Ethernet backbone at the Interop show floor and Network Operations Center. The systems will utilize InnovaCom's DV2100 MPEG-2 encoders, 3Com and Extreme Gigabit Ethernet switches, servers from Compaq, and traffic generators from Netcom.
``This live backbone demonstration is a tremendous step forward for the Gigabit Ethernet technology,'' said Tony Lee, chairman of the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and product line manager for Extreme Networks. ``It demonstrates that although the Gigabit Ethernet standards is not yet final, the current draft is quite solid and products can already interoperate.''
``The use of InnovaCom's MPEG-2 encoding technology in these exhibits is an example of the extreme flexibility of InnovaCom's encoding products for networking,'' Koz said, ``and further evidence of InnovaCom's ability to identify and penetrate new markets.''
Networld+Interop, now in its eleventh year, is a SOFTBANK forum and attracts over 50,000 network and Internet professionals from around the world.
InnovaCom is also designing and developing a single-chip MPEG-2 encoder that is anticipated to begin deliveries during the first quarter of 1998.
