Pakistan (allied with Saudi Arabia, etc.) is Sunni --- natural enemies to the Iranian Shiites. (In fact, they have contested with each other over control of Afghanistan for years. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia largely built the Taliban to resist Iranian influence, to provide a buffer between them and Iran.) No, in this instance they simply want to buy cheap natural gas from Iran --- so they are strongly FOR the building of a gas pipeline from Iran to them. (Something the US has --- quite impotently --- opposed for a long time.) Hell... even INDIA (big enemy of Pakistan) is for the Iranian gas pipeline! Religion and politics may be one thing --- but BUSINESS is BUSINESS! (That, and of course the secondary reason: no one is ever very happy to have a Super Power come in and tell them they can't have something....)
