By the stats I posted, there were more people killed in Southern Sudan from 1984-1995 (over 2 million estimated killed) vs the last few years in Dafur, Sudan between 200,000 to 400,000 killed.
Both sets of numbers are terrible. But it appears that the first numbers were worse as far as numbers are concerned.
My opinion is that while the number of murders is stunning, there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it. What is the National Interest in the Sudan?
Are you going to go over and see what you can do to stop the situation?
I don't believe you have been for the war in Iraq, either.....and that war is definitely in our National interest. Over 65% of the world's oil reserves are in the Middle East. Saddam had already killed tens of thousands of the citizens of Iraq with WMD. He was paying families $25,000 if they provided a suicide bomber youngster. He and his evil sons caused the rape, torture, and murder of tens of thousands, perhaps more, of Iraqi citizens.
You didn't want him to continue to trade and deal with murdering barbarians from places like North Korea, etc did you? And don't forget, Al-Zaquawi was in Iraq while Saddam was in power. You don't think Al-Z was just playing tiddly-winks now, do you? |
