Nantucket is mainly GOP territory. Very Rich white old money misers who want to screw the little people and not pay their taxes. It's also corporate CEO central with their mega-bonuszes and stock options which Bush's tax code is designed to protect from taxation. I've been there a lot. Not exactly a democratic stronghold. Very much Rockefellar GOP types. GW Bush is from a similar family though their family seaside compound is in Maine. However, I once met Bush's cousin at the whites-only super elitist Country Club in Brookline. Very few democrats there too. Even Theresa Heinz, remember, has 100% Republican old money which she inherited from her GOP senator ex-husband.
After his death the GOP approached her to run for senate in his place.

The myth that democrats are "elitists" and GOP leaders are not is a huge fat lie. Most of the very rich people who don't want to pay their fair share of taxes are sqaurely in the GOP camp, though many are not disenchanted of course with these Bushie crooks and incompetents in DC. They yearn for the days of Rockefellar and the Robber Barons, when they paid no taxes at all and their party belonged to them instead of the dishonest Texas big oil and war profiteer types. As for the religious right, these elitist Repubs laugh at them behind their backs, considering them wacko fools.
