I just took a small position in CYTC this morning. Because of the additional expense in using ThinPrep over a traditional pap smear, there may be some reluctance on the part of insurers initially to reimburse of ThinPrep. In the long run it maybe cheaper to use it, however. Why? Well there is the malpractice issue that Chuck alluded to. Also, from a financial stand point if you can catch a malignancy early on there may be a net savings to the insurer. Most certainly there's a benefit to the patient. It will be interesting to see if some of the women's groups pick up the issue in the event that some insurers won't fully reimburse for ThinPrep.
