Bush-Cheney lied to us about Saddam. He was an ally of the Reagan-Bush crowd until 1991. Then we put him in a box and took away all his military toys. It wasn't a perfect situation, it was a pain in the neck, but there was nowhere near the amount of UN corruption Bushies claimed and WMD reports were more than a decade old. There was no connection to Al Qaida as Bushies claimed. There were no current WMD as Bushies claimed and still claim in some cases. And there was no reason to invade.
Also let's remember that a report came out in 2004 that right before Bush's invasion Saddam had reluctantly agreed to Bush's demands to take a golden parachute out of the country. But Bush ignored it. Bush wanted this war, this occupation and those oilfields. The WMD claims were just a phony excuse. Bush lusted for war but never thought beyond the first few weeks, which as John Kerry warned, would be the easy part. Winning the peace Kerry stated, would be the hard part, but Bushies never thought about the peace, or the safety of our troops, only the war.
So now we have hanged Saddam. Good riddance, but as a result of this invasion we have far bigger threats to worry about, from the very people Bush claimed to be liberating, from those who still cling to the Bushie lies and ideals, as well as Iran which has filled the power vaccuum Bush created by ignoring all the sage advice. The next president will have a lot of damage-control clean-up work to do. What a total disaster. |
