Pierre de Plantard first came forward with that Priory of Sion stuff to those three guys who wrote Holy Blood, Holy Grail. It was all very elaborate, went so far as planting documents in the Biblioteque Nacional. Yeah, the Priory was a fraud, but what was his angle? Was it just an aristocratic joke?
