I think we don't want the world to know that WE supplied Saddam with poison gas to fight the Iranians. The same gas he later used on the Kurds..

I see. Why do you think it was supplied by the US? Just makes sense to you, or you have some other evidence?

If the US illegally provided poison gas to Iraq in the 1980s, why didn't Saddam ever bring that up as a defense in the whole WMD discussion thing? Seems like it would have been a good little piece of PR for him.

How do you know he didn't?

Some reading about the Reagan administration's involvement in the arming of Iraq during the 1980s. Some of the same players in the current invasion of Iraq were helping Saddam defeat Iran. The best document that clearly states what we did militarily to help Saddam I can't find......it was from Congressional hearings held in Wisconsin during the early 1990s. If I find it, I'll post it.

During the 1980s the US [Reagan et al] were Saddams' best friends. In fact, no one was more shocked than Saddam when the US attacked him after he invaded Kuwait:

The guy on the left shaking hands with Saddam......look familiar?
