Dutch astronomer Christian Huygens invented a new, more accurate telescope in 1655 and with it discovered Saturn's largest moon Titan. The known solar system then consisted of six planets and six moons. Huygens believed that the number of moons could not logically exceed the number of planets, so he stopped searching the solar system
