Ars technica number one event in 2006 for Observational Physics:"Cosmology: Here we have divided the category into astronomy and observations that contribute to our grand theory of how the universe ended up the way it did and other more local astronomical observations. Cosmology is relatively new as an observational science, so we really want to choose results that have cleared up mysteries or provided an elegant confirmation of theoretical predictions. With this in mind there is only one choice: the direct observation of mass where there is no evidence of ordinary matter. These observations have really closed the case on dark matter. It is there in the amount predicted."
