World faces hottest year ever, as El Niño combines with global warming

It's freezing over here!!

It's going to be a chilly and windy New Year's Day
By Daniel Bardsley, Staff Reporter

Dubai: The chilly, windy and cloudy weather that has plagued the UAE this week is set to continue on New Year's Day.

Forecasters are expecting a maximum temperature in Dubai today of about 20C - around 5C down on the seasonal average. Similarly cool conditions are likely elsewhere in the country.

As well as being cold by UAE standards, today is also expected to be windy thanks to the continued Shamal from the north-west.

Forecasters predicted that today's minimum temperature would be about 15C, which is fairly close to the average for this time of year, with the cloud cover helping to retain heat during the night.

The cloudy and cool weather is set to continue into Tuesday, but from Wednesday onwards there is set to be more sunshine and maximum temperatures should pick up.
