It took years before deaths in Vietnam began to ratchet up as well. This isn't even a war against a country, it's a police action against part timers.

It's astonishing that rightwingers keep saying that the number of deaths in Iraq aren't a big deal. As long as the deaths don't affect them directly, they aren't a big deal, they're just numbers on a page and propaganda to schlep.
