Come on... you and I may not get it, because we've never been in that situation, but what did the guy have to lose? He had no rent money and needed to do something for shelter. He hangs onto the money, he has no shelter. He loses the money, he has no shelter. He puts the money on the line and wins, he's got a place to live. He was lucky enough to win, and it gives the story a happy ending, or at least gives him some respite from the cold. I hope neither of us never has to be put in such a situation. -Z
