You're unbelieveable. You too drank the koolaid hook, line and sinker.

Shit happens! Things don't always work out the way you think they will. I was really fortunate that I was able to save a lot of money during my twenties.....otherwise I'd be in big trouble now. Not everyone is in that position. Do you think Michael J. Fox expected to get Parkinson's before he was 40? Wonder if he had been a factory worker instead of a well known actor. He would be up the financial creek right now without a paddle. There is nothing wrong with safety nets in a wealthy country that can afford it.

Rather than list a bunch of exceptions just answer the basic question. If someone doesn't take care of themselves when presented with the ability and opportunity to do so, am I and the rest of society responsible for taking care of them?

I agree its good to take care of those that cannot take care of themselves. That's not the subject.

Lemme make it easy for you. Your favorite person:
If Paris Hilton runs out of cash because she bought too many new Mazerattis and got drunk and crashed them, and repeated that behavior for the next 40 years, how much of your money should she get when she turns 65?
