"That people would look to what battles he had to go through to be where he is today. And lastly, he represents what could happen "only in America" and no other country in the world.
This is exactly why I became interested in Obama. His story is one of challenges and challenges met and overcome. This is only possible in America to overcome these challenges.
He had a major identity crisis to deal with beginning at the age of 2. An absent father. Absent fathers white, black, yellow, green whatever color set the stage for all kinds of insecurities in life. Abandonment. Identity. Love. No example-------the example being a negative one.
I am surprised that being considered darked skin in Hawaii was a problem due to the international mix-----Hawaiian, Samoan, Japanese, Chinese, Whites ----of British extraction and various other blends-------then the religions across the whole spectrum Buddhist, Shinto, Mormon, Catholic, Presbyterian etc.
To belong he then becomes a part of the drug crowd. No everyone did not use drugs during those times. Given his family background he was ripe for being caught up in this.
Fortunate for him as I undertand from his later book------a professor recognized his intelligence and how he was wasting himself and intervened.
Obama's story is not a lot different from many Americans----this is a large part of his appeal.
