re: Once finished in June, the plant will depend on varied raw materials, technical know-how and efficient transportation to make biodiesel priced on par with diesel. Imperium says it can compete as long as crude oil stays above $43 a barrel.

One of the problems we eventually face is that as we start producing significant amounts of alternative fuels and improve fleet efficiency, the price of oil probably will fall below $43 a barrel. There should be a base price where an oil tax kicks in... and keeps oil non-competitive.

I mean, how much is it worth to our economy to have that $43 going to a company in Seattle, and presumably reinvested in the US, rather than going to the USSR, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela? That's to say nothing of the other benefits.
