China over the next ten to 15 years will produce for its mobile population about 100 million (mostly fuel cell electic) cars, which translates into about 7-10 million per year. They will require each about 300 lbs of copper, 100 lbs of lead, 250 lbs of aluminum, 100 lbs of zinc, 1500 lbs of iron, 160 lbs of butyl rubber, 15 oz's of PGM's, 60 lbs of Molybdenum, 100 lbs of silicon, 100 lbs of sand, 350 lbs of plastics, and 3 sheep. Copper requirements alone will be 1.5 million tons per year.

You can double that for the rest of Asia.

It is no wonder that groups are gearing up to mine the sea-bed. (Nautilus) We may need to tow a copper asteroid or two back to feed the demand. Gold needs for the computer circuits in electric cars will be in excess of 1400 tons per year worldwide.
