I guess so...That's why I got into a fight with Macy's at a counter, I was buying gift cards, and they got a call from credit who asked my birthday, address, telephone...etc...I refused when they asked out loud for my SS# I said no way was I giving that out loud! they had my Macy's card, my drivers license, and I answered all the questions, but I wasn't giving my SS#...they tried to tell me it was for my protection!!! In a pigs eye..I got American Express gift cards, and they could use them anywhere...too bad, their loss.
