I finally broke down and got a DVR in December.

It worked great for about 10 days, and then the channel guide stopped working. You need the channel guide to (a) know what's on and (b) to schedule recording of future programs.

Charter was universally unhelpful. My first call netted the comment that "they're revising the channel guides in your area and it could take 4-5 days to get it back." Huh?

Second call was a bit more useful. We determined that the DVR was not picking up the IP address, so it was not communicating with the Charter servers.

Now, after a week, I have a tech coming over to the house to look at it.

And Charter wants me to convert over to them for telephone service? I think not. I'm teetering on the edge of going with Dish for television.
