I certainly don't disagree with you on the point that Saddam deserved to die. Absolutely.

The consternation that has occured about the "midnight" execution is understandable, though. The kurds still feel they didn't get their day in court. Much of the rest of the world would have prefered a somewhat longer period between the end of the appeal and the actual execution, not to mention an execution that did not look like it was done in a hurry, in a garage, under cover of night.

It looked like the Shiites were calling ALL the shots. If they were, its bad for a hope of a unified Iraq. Al Maliki supposedly had to keep his promise that "Saddam would not see the new year", so it done quick.
