Let me say that it seems strange that only a small group of lawyers in Southern CA seem to know anything about DST procedures. I would think that a lot of wealthy people all over the country would be aware of these sort of tax avoidance mechanisms. For instance, what are the wealthy people in Atherton or Woodside doing to avoid or delay paying taxes on highly appreciated assets ? What about rich people in NY state. or Illinois and anywhere else ?

I asked this question of a CPA whose advice I have sometimes sought out and she had never heard of it. She lives and works in Palo Alto, CA. Now its possible that she isn't aware of some obscure tax law but it gives me cold sweats thinking that I have discovered some sort of secret known only to a few critical lawyers. Perhaps I am a bit suspicious, but I would like to see that others have gone down this path before me and lived to talk about it.
