A reserve LTJG "got in my way" once so I was sent mess cooking (even though at the time I was an E-4).
My early morning job was cracking eggs (1400 to 1600...2 in each hand at a time). Some were so rotten that nothing but black goup came out.
I had a special bowl for those, and the cooks would use those for the meat loaf.
Surprisingly, the meat loaf was one of the best meals!
