I guess so. I had "service availability" 99.999% of the time during the year I was stuck with the telco's DSL, but it never was more than a quarter of the promised speed, if someone called on the phone while I was on the computer, the connection slowed to the old Hayes Smartmodem speed and I had to disconnect everything and then reconnect it afterwards to get it up and running.
At least with the cable company, its either on or its off. I can live with OFF. OFF means I can come back later, instead of hoping against hope that that website will finally finish downloading some time in the next three hours. And ON, well ON means ON - Full Speed Ahead.
These days, I am thrilled that I can move the cable modem an inch to the left and not need to call the Philippines or Bangladesh and have someone named "Skip" instruct me to reconfigure the whole thing for the hundredth time. (I'll never forget the reply when I suggested that they were not delivering the product promised: "We only guarantee that on our end - whatever you get on your end is not our affair." I expected Lily Tomlin to come on the line at any moment.)
What I really want, though, is wireless. That way, I can be rid of all of them. Forever. And Ever! ;-)
Ah, well, glad to hear about Jackson and that tree, anyway. All the best. |
