My brother is using Verizon wireless. He has a Motorola Q and connects that to his laptop and is quite pleased with the speed (or says he is). IIRC, the whole thing is running him only about $80/mo.

I've been thinking of saying TTFN to both landline and VoIP. Had planned to toss the landline a while ago, but the cable went down for 3 days the day I was going to call and cancel. So I didn't. Now that I'm using cellular again, I can't think of any real reason to keep either. (Not that I have anything against VONAGE, but I don't have anything FOR them either). It is one of my life's goals to have nothing to do with SBC ever again (even if they are masquerading as ATT these days).

As for cable: Without a need for their internet, I won't need cable anymore. Bye Bye Comcast! (The last regularly scheduled major network series I recall watching more than once was "Everbody Loves Raymond," and that's only because I didn't so I thought I ought to give it a second try.) I can get by usng Netflix for all I turn on the TV these days, or perhaps one of the semi-custom plans dish plans and forget about the local stations.

So, drop the cable ($99/mo), the regular phone ($25/mo) and the VoIP ($28/mo). Add the $50 to my wireless account. Sounds like I come out ahead there ;-)

What about guests, you ask? What will they do if they need a phone? All of my guests these days carry their own, but I figure I'll pick up a handy-dandy pre-paid beauty at the local Circle K for those travelling without.

(P.S: I welcome suggestions or pointers to possibly flawed reasoning. ;-)
