If what you say is true, why is everyone including Bush wringing their hands over Iraq? Why was the GOP put out to pature this past election?

Bush didn't have the sense to declare mission accomplished and depart Iraq with the Iraqis in charge fast enough. The remove Saddam from power part (the war part, where the invincible US military destroys the enemy) went swimmingly. Even the post-war mop up where the coalition rounded up the individual members of Saddam's regime and brought them to justice went amazingly well. The part that is not going well is the decision to build something in Iraq to replace Saddam's regime. This part, like it or not, is a humanitarian effort to help the surviving members of the local population. THAT is what is going (based on the news reports and mood on this board and in the US) very poorly.

Failing in a humanitarian effort to help foreign civilians live in a stable, peaceful environment is not the same as losing a war.

I don't consider building something part of a war, and I also don't consider policing a foreign country part of a war. I'd call that post-war reconstruction efforts. If you want to say the US military is failing in that effort, I'd tend to agree. But its sort of like sending 200 doctors to defeat a regiment of the Iraqi Republican Guard - of course they probably will fail and get killed - it's not what they are trained to do.
