Some chinks in the bullish armor lately in addition to the housing problems:

- Commodities breaking down hard

- Retail sales weak

- A lot of price competition eroding profits in tech

Is recession right around the corner?

I am 60% cash, 30% bonds, 8% equities, 2% NASDAQ short.

Equities are VLO, CNQ (established today at 46 and change), a few remnants of oil trusts, TRP.

Bonds are FAX, TIP, assorted muni closed end funds.

Cash is T-bills and Euro short term CDs, plus the gold/palladium insurance (2% of portfolio).

I also have a 2% portfolio disaster insurance in the form of QID, a double QQQ short. With Bush at the helm, you never know what disasters await us. Low but non-negligible probability that he may attack Iran, which will greatly compound the Iraq disaster.
