You might be interested in Charles Krauthammer's op-ed on Saddam's execution. He makes some very good points.

After reading it, you might no longer believe that the US was to blame for the execution.

Back to my point that what really matters is that he is dead.

Now, no matter how much opposed one was to deposing Saddam by the use of force, he can never regain power, which brings an important element of closure. He's never coming back.

Personally, I've regretted not deposing him in 1990-1991. Big mistake. But that mistake has been corrected now.

I don't believe in the death penalty except when it is necessary in order to prevent more murders. This was.
