Since 1995 the Federal Government has been negotiating leases on 65 cottages in a place called hope Bay. Now the band whose land the cottages are on, have told the cottagers to get their stuff, the cottages belong to the Chippawa Tribe and they have till january 30, 2007 to get their stuff out of the summer homes they built and paid for, because native families will be moving in. Since the Federal government has been negotiating this for 12 years, and obviously the former cottage owners had no input or information, it seems only right that the full market value of the cottages be paid to the former cottage owners from the budget of native affairs this year. This may mean a few hardships for some native groups, but it represents a major investment in the Hope Bay reservation, and over the next 5 years the money can be taken from federal subsidies to the Chippawa tribe.
