Eighteen companies, comprising the leaders in system memory infrastructure, announced support for the Direct Rambus high-bandwidth memory-interface technology from Rambus Inc. The announcements coincide with Rambus Inc.'s disclosure of the Direct Rambus main memory system packaging at the inaugural Intel Developer Forum here.

DRAM memory module suppliers supporting the technology include Fujitsu Ltd., Hitachi Ltd., Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Kingston Technology Co., LG Semiconductor Co. Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corp., NEC Electronics Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Smart Modular Technologies Inc., and Texas Instruments Inc.

Connector makers announcing their support include Berg Electronics. Clock-chip makers supporting the technology include Cypress Semiconductor Corp., Integrated Circuit Systems Inc., IC Works, International Microcircuits Inc., and NEC Electronics Inc.

Test-equipment makers announcing their support include Advantest Corp. and Teradyne Inc. Hewlett-Packard Co. announced in July its intention to ship semiconductor automatic test equipment capable of testing Direct Rambus devices.
