You think living in your car when its 30º is okay? Damn! You are more willing to rough it than I am.

You have to consider the alternatives. It saved me thousands and thousands of dollars one year when my finances were shaky. I still contributed to my 401(k) enough to get the full match from my employer and had an HCRA. Also there was a shower at work, which was a tremendous help.

Of course, you'd want a blanket or two. You crank up the heat as much as possible before you park, and if you wake up cold, you just fire up the engine for half an hour. Which is a lot like living indoors if you turn the heat off before going to bed. What's more important is being able to recline your seat all the way back so you can lie down and relax. I kept all my stuff in the trunk so the inside of my car didn't look like I'd been living in it for months.

What did your wife say? How did your kids handle living in the car?
