It has been an interesting process over the last few years. I like that expression, "lab coat clerics". Spot on.

I was busy with greenhouse effect and other environmental and health issues over 20 years ago in my BP days. It's funny to see newbies get all religious about it. I was an environmentalist 40 years ago, before the current crop were born, when my harbour was destroyed by pollution, air polluted, rocky peninsular at Mt Maunganui buried in concrete for a stupid "marine show" which failed to be economic. Now they want to lecture me. It's hilarious.

I was trying to get lead out of petrol but the Royal Society of New Zealand was almost indifferent, government had it on the back burner, the public was sneering at environmentalists. BP management didn't care much [no constituency].

I was discussing carbon taxes back then as a solution if CO2 was really a problem. NZ's "Green" government recently ditched the idea of a carbon tax instead of income or other taxes. Cut cyberspace taxes, increase polluting taxes.
