I think he was a good coach, but its not like there aren't other good coaches. He also was sort of the GM. He made the final decisions on personnel. He might not have done a great job there. He made some good decisions, but some perhaps not so good. Taking Culpepeper over Brees doesn't seem like such a great decision (but to be fair to Saban, at the time most people though Brees's injury would take longer to heal). Maybe Culpepeper is healthy next year and does well, but my confidence isn't very high at this point.

One thing about losing Saban and starting with a new coach is that it makes things less stable, and the change takes time to work itself out. Too much change is bad. If you have new schemes and ideas and need new types of players it can take awhile to get it all set up. Hopefully not so long that Taylor and Thomas are retired.
