I don't know how you define progressive. I don't define myself as liberal, conservative, or anything else. Above all else, I'm practical and believe in solving long term problems. The common denominator to our national security, economic security, and environmental issues is our dependence on oil. So solve let's solve the root cause of the problem, instead of the symptoms. Let's get off the oil. The technology already exists to make that happen. We just need to boost those industries capacity to get economies of scale.

Did you know that in the past decade solar panels cost per watt has come down from something like $30/watt to around $7/watt today due to economies of scale and due to new inventions? Did you know that at $4/watt it is cost competitive with coal and other electricity generating plants?

We don't have far to go. All we need is the political willpower. Would you rather have spent $500B on getting us off the oil instead of on the Iraq war and on enriching Iraqis as they squandered and stole most of the money we gave the government? What about spending American tax dollars on American industry and Americans? Where is the shame in that? Don't we deserve as much care and feeding as Iraqis do, especially with our own hard earned money?
