which is a claim that the US education system doesn't produce critical thinkers. That claim runs counter to common sense as the US produces amongst the most innovative and creative people on the planet, as evidenced by the global success of US entertainment, medical and technology industries.

Your proof that the US education system doesn't produce critical thinkers is this Among adults age 25 to 34, the U.S. is ninth among industrialized nations in the share of its population that has at least a high school degree. In the same age group, the United States ranks seventh, with Belgium, in the share of people who hold a college degree. which measures what percentage of the population graduates, but has NOTHING to do with critical thinking.

Your point (apparently) is that the US graduates a smaller percentage of its population that other countries, not that the education system produces less critical thinkers.

Japan for example graduates loads of students able to pass standardized tests of various subjects at very high levels, but is terrible at producing individuals that are skilled at figuring out what to do in a new, unexpected situation.
