No, I think they are different things. Patriotism is love and devotion to one's country. It's entirely possible to love America and view non-Americans as equals. Favoring Americans over non-Americans just because they are American is more along the lines of national nepotism. In athletics it would be like giving the American javelin thrower a better javelin than the non-American thrower. You see that that's wrong, correct?

For instance, do you believe that one innocent Iraqi life lost in "the war on terrorism" is equivalent to one US life lost in the World Trade Center terrorist attack?

To the extent that they are both 1 human life, sure. What else could they be (one of them is 0.9 and the other 1.1?). I don't think that's what you mean, though.

I do think that if for whatever reason you can feed two non-Americans or just one American, but not all three, that you should feed the two non-Americans. Maybe that helps you understand my view.
