He was in our custody and had been for quite a while. How about some old fashioned procrastination until a non-mob execution could have been guaranteed? How do you think they handled it, after we handed him over? Did it work out well from our POV? We made a big mistake, and "it really was their call" doesn't convert it into the Right (or smart) Thing To Have Done.
