My understanding is that the _w means when issued. Therefore when PepsiCo officially splits on 10/6 COB, the symbol PEP which is now trading around 41 will be eliminated in favor of the PEP_w & YUM_w combination. Then those two symbols will lose the _w.

You can figure out based the the number of shares you own, that if it stays close to the same ratio (PEP vs PEP_w + YUM_w) you'll be close to even.
