there is a whole world of credit default swaps (CDS) on individual companies, or basket of companies that is correlated or a contract on an index that they feel is a good correlation to hedge with -- all can be structured and would never show up in a filing...

for example, they could have bought the shares, and shorted the biotech index at a ratio they believe the hedge correlations should work, or they could have simply entered into a CDS on the stock, basket, or index or combination thereof.

interesting speculation indeed.
