Today, slavery continues in some Muslim nations, especially in Sudan and Mauritania, although there is mounting international pressure on these countries to abolish the institution.

Slavery was also percieved as a means of converting non-Muslims to Islam: A task of the masters was Religious instructions

Although slavery itself was not abolished by the Qur'an, Muslims were admonished to treat their slaves well
