There was some hubbub about the MJO, Madden
Julian Oscillation about a week ago. That
was overstated I think.

There is a cold upper trof moving through the
PacNW tonight, we are enjoying a inch of snow
and icy roads, still some light snow here as
I type this.

I see the post--the Accuweather guy. I am not
going to comment, it isn't fair for a federal
meteorologist to comment on a private met.
If you want to see the weather pattern, and
have a decent connection to the internet, go here
and select the 500mb loop. You will see the
weather pattern for the next 15 days. It has
some skill for the first half of the loop, then,
not so much for the second week.

The six to ten day outlook often has skill, they
usually tell you in their discussion how they feel
about it on a scale from 1-5...

At NCEP they run several different models, plus ensembles.
If the ensemble mean is similar to the operational model,
we have confidence in the model. etc etc
