there's nothing there that's real
Good morning, Mq!
If my reply will keep making more sense as I go along, that would probably be the coffee kicking in... The picture was obviously doctored... my excuse, as I mentioned in a consequent post, was not having my reading glasses on... :) but you are right, I was asking myself the same thing - about having an anti-Penn bias. Yes, I do.
(Having put on yet stronger glasses, it appears that the photo was photoshopped not in order to mislead, but rather simply to make fun of Penn)
Politically hot-headed actors like Penn use their name (and face) recognition to push their undercooked beliefs... and I also think that when doing so, they often get caught in those new roles. I suspect they often enjoy various secondary gains from such activities - they probably come to believe that it is only right to employ their talents as actors in order to bring "good" to the world, etc.
Maybe it makes them more popular and helps them land better parts in movies, who knows. But there is definitely something narcissistic, self-serving and... fishy about it all.
I remember seeing actual undoctored footage about Kathrina, where Sean Penn was in this very same tiny boat out there, "saving lives" - and doing what he does on the photo - pumping out water with a pail of some sort. And there were photographers aboard - albeit, not as many.
I actually like Penn in some of his movies - but when it comes to his political outbursts, he's a laughable narcissistic goofball.... imho. |
