Hi Peter,
I highlighted the open architecture aspect of the Sprint-Nextel announcement on the Cook list with the hope of getting it vetted, but I got no takers. It's a refreshing thing to see, in any event.
Re the Jobs prezo, thanks. I posted it yesterday too, somewhere amid the mire and noise of the past 24. What do you think about the law suit from Cisco? I think it's pretty weak, in several ways. During the time frame 1994-1996 I moderated an ongoing thread in the Compuserve Telecommunications Forum (it was one of two very long ones, the other being Total National Bandwidth, or TNB) that I titled "I-Phone." Man, you want to talk about a war?
At the time, just prior to NetSpeak's product release in '95, all of the buzz and speculation centered on the IETF's iptel, or iptelephony. Shorthand terms like I-Phone, Iphone, IP-Tel, packetphone, IP-Phone, etc. were common.
