Presidents Nixon and Ford were the last Presidents to use the power of impoundment effectively, also the last to have the authority. After democrats took away the authority of the executive branch to run government, the children took over the show and pandemonium has been the rule ever since. Restore the power of impoundment and some of the waste will stop. I agree that the current democrat TaxGo proposal is only a ruse to increase taxes and not one to control spending. Eliminate benchmarking for all programs and censure any Member of Congress who dredges it up to demagogue. That would be an incremental improvement. IMHO the best alternative would be a Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment. We tried Keynesian Economics and politicians found they liked one side of the formula so much that even when times were good they still spent more tan they brought home. Balanced Budgets will seem Draconian compared to Keynesian inspired deficit spending. We are talking about the future of our Republic. If we keep on the binge we are on, it is unlikely to live beyond another 50 years, and my kids will be getting close to retirement as the dissolution occurs.
