there is always a deal to be struck. Partition is one the shia might have some interest in and al sadr in that case would be on our side if and when we fall back to that position. In that circumstance, bagdad will have to be divided and it will become jerusalem #2 i am afraid.
I am also thinking that syria, jordan, and SA might be intersted in a fall back solution where western iraq is somehow integrated into one or more of those countries. Again shiaa wouldnt mind losing anbar and having a viable shiaa state as well as a kurdish one. After all there is enough oil in both areas to intitially support such a state.
